Falcon move to British Formula Ford

Former Intersteps team Falcon Motorsport will be moving its operation to field a three car squad in British Formula Ford 200 this season. The Oxfordshire based team has concluded a deal to run the French Mygale chassis with power from Scholar engines. “Since the demise of Intersteps, we have been looking at a number of options.” Commented team Principal Nick Streatfield. “When Ford secured a place on the BTCC package and announced the upgraded formula, our decision became simple. The drivers love racing in front of the big crowds and the media exposure helps them secure the funds. Ford has a great history of developing talent and this new car brings the formula right up to date.

Venter shines on his debut in NEC Renault

Liam Venter surpassed all expectation at Spa this weekend with a strong performance in challenging conditions. Free practice seemed very short round the 7km track, but an encouraging place in the low twenties of a thirty six car grid was impressive amongst so many drivers with a year or more experience in the formula. Qualifying did not produce quite the same result though and it would be a start of thirty second and thirty third for the two races. “We just didn’t get the best out of the new tyres today” remarked driver coach Craig Dolby. Race one on Sunday saw a lightening start from Liam making an incredible eight places on the first lap only to lose them all when the pit limiter was activated by mistake. Over the closing laps though, the places would be regained to finish in an impressive twenty first place. Race two could so easily have been glory with changing conditions. Some drivers at the back elected to go wet tyres and it proved to be the right choice. Falcon went for slicks as did most of the grid, but the damp track conditions were difficult and Liam would spin off while once again making rapid progress through the field.
